Today I made a sizable change to the race rewards system in response to the play testing everyone has been doing since our launch last week. I will continually tweak the system to try to ensure the maximum level of playability. Here is an explanation of how the reward system works right now.
Experience is now a fixed value of 1,000 points, with a 10% bonus for 1st, 5% bonus for 2nd, and 3% bonus for 3rd. This will allow for a smooth leveling path, but with a solid benefit for hitting the finish line first, and leaving your competitors in the dust.
Leveling is a fun mathematical algorithm that I somehow wrote. Here it is if you're interested:
Simply put, after each level, you need to race a bit more than the previous level, so it gets incrementally harder. I might tweak it a bit in the future but for now it seems good.
Money is broken down by finish place as such:
As you can see, there is a huge benefit to doing well, however you are of course rewarded just for completing the race. Use those nitros strategically! They will make all the difference when you are neck and neck.
Nitro rewards are very simple: 2 nitros for 1st place, 1 nitro for 2nd. That's it. As always, it pays to win. And of course there are great achievements for winning consistently.
What This Ends Up Meaning
Basically, for you racers who were here since before this blog post, the fast racers will level a bit slower, and the slow racers will level a bit faster. I want to make Nitro Type a fun gaming experience for everyone, and leveling and earning money too slow OR too fast makes things boring, and boring is the enemy!
Any thoughts? Let me know in the comments.
